Colby Red Wine, Supporting Charities That Promote Heart Health

Colby Red, a California Red Wine Blend made by Australian winemaker Daryl Groom, is dedicated to raising awareness for heart disease. The proceeds support charities that promote heart health. The Groom Family has made significant donations to the American Heart Association, Mended Little Hearts, Children’s Heart Camps, families in need and many other cardiac research organizations. Proceeds from sales of Colby Red at Mollie Stone’s will go to local cardiac health organizations.

Daryl’s son, Colby, was diagnosed with a  heart defect when he was born. By the age of 2 this initial atrial septal defect had healed itself, but doctors discovered a defective heart valve. With his heart deteriorating, Colby underwent open-heart surgery to repair the valve at age 8. The repair did not hold, so Colby underwent a second open-heart surgery to receive a mechanical heart valve from St. Jude. Today, he is a healthy 14 year old boy.

Daryl, his wife Lisa, and later Colby became committed to supporting education and research for children’s cardiac care. When Colby expressed interest in learning about growing grapes and making wine at age 11, he and Daryl collaborated on creating a wine – Colby Red – that would raise awareness and money for heart research.

The Groom Family’s passion for their cause is incredible. CLICK HERE to read our interview with Daryl Groom, which details how Colby Red got started and the impact it has made nationwide. We have also included a video below that tells the Groom Family’s story.
