Our Craft Beer Summer Picks

The sun is out, the weather’s warm and the days are longer. You know what this calls for? BEER. Kiley, our Craft Beer Expert, picked some of his favorite beers for you to enjoy this summer.

Fire up the grill, get your swimsuits on, and let’s get the party started:

Stone Enjoy By 07.04.15 IPA, Stone Brewery, Escondido, CA
9.4% ABV
This limited release fresh hoppy double IPA was brewed specifically not to last. You must drink this brew before July 4th. Get your hands on this bad boy before it’s too late!

Grapefruit Sculpin, Ballast Point, San Diego, CA
7% ABV
This is their signature double IPA with a citrus twist. This grapefruit ale is ultra-refreshing and tastes like summer.

Pinedrops IPA, Deschutes Brewery, Bend, OR
6.5% ABV
Originally only available on tap, they started bottling and made it available to us in April. This crisp and light malt IPA yields ample citrus and pine notes. This brew was inspired by the aroma of pine forests near their brewhouse.

CitrusSinensis Pale Ale, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Petaluma, CA
7.9% ABV
This is the first Lagunitas with a citrus flavor EVER. This refreshing pale ale is brewed with Sanguinello blood orange juice. They’re only doing a single run so get it before it’s gone.

JC Flyer IPA, Iron Springs, Fairfax, CA
7% ABV
This local favorite is a bold yet smooth floral IPA.

Scrimshaw, North Coast Brewing Co., Fort Bragg, CA
4.7% ABV
This subtle hop, crisp, clean beer from Fort Bragg is perfect for easy summer drinking. The lower ABV makes it a good beer for times when you feel like drinking earlier in the day, say at a lunch BBQ?

Fortunate Islands, Modern Times, San Diego, CA
5% ABV
This “uber-hoppy” wheat beer uses Citra and Amarillo hops, giving it a tropical aroma of mango, tangerine and passionfruit. All varieties from this San Diego brewery are good according to Kiley. You should also give their summer seasonal beer Oneida a try.

Mana Wheat,  Maui Brewing Co, Kihei, HI
5.5% ABV
This refreshing wheat ale is infused with Maui Gold Pineapple making it fruity and sweet.

Baby Daddy IPA, Speakeasy, San Francisco, CA
4.7% ABV
This first edition crisp, low bitter session IPA has citrus and tropical notes. The can it comes in isn’t too shabby either:
