Take a peek at the company’s peaceful Point Reyes farm.
Set among the rolling hills of the northern Pacific coast, the Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company’s farm is an idyllic place to produce creamy, award-winning cheese. The fog brings in the fresh, salty air from the ocean and the organic grass provides a nourishing diet for their dairy cows. The Giacomini family started their dairy farm in 1959 and began producing Original Blue, California’s only classic style blue cheese, in 2000. It starts with Grade A milk from their cows, which becomes whey and then curds. The cheese is cured and aged to perfection, and each batch is evaluated and tested before it is released to market. From the pungent Original Blue to more recent offerings like the buttery Toma, this family farm’s flavorful cheeses are also showcased in The Fork, their newly opened education center.

We learned from our tour guide they are one of the few farmstead cheese companies, meaning that they raise their own cows and use the milk to produce cheese immediately.
The young cows on the farm were so sweet and approachable.
Our group says “Cheese!” while sitting down to a cheese tasting and meal at The Fork.
The main course was pasta with spinach and roasted butternut squash that let the Point Reyes Original Blue shine. For dessert: fudgy brownies made with cream from the farm.
