Mollie Stone’s Markets is thrilled to announce the grand remodel of its beloved Castro market, an iconic fixture in the San Francisco community since 2009.
Designed to enhance the shopping experience, expand its high-quality and locally sourced products, and augment personalized service, the market’s glow up has been widely embraced by the community.
Our grand remodel marks the celebration of our market’s glow up, which included new store light fixtures, remodeled floors and ceiling, 330 inches of video monitors displaying iconic San Francisco views, new check stands, bathrooms, a renovated parking garage, and more. To make shopping easier and more enjoyable, the store now has a more spacious and intuitive design with energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration upgrades to reduce the store’s environmental footprint.
We also maximized our store space with an enhancement of product variety including an abundance of local products and an expanded selection of chef-prepared meals and grab-and-go options in the prepared foods section. The remodeled Castro location also features an expanded produce section showcasing an even wider array of organic and locally sourced fruits and vegetables.
The grand remodel celebration took place on Friday, January 17th, a morning full of community, food, refreshments, music, and fun! It was a pleasure to have our special guests, Donna Sachet as our Master of Ceremonies, President of the Board of Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, and Castro Merchants Association Treasurer Nate Bourg speak to the community.
Donna Sachet is Co-Founder and Board President of Rainbow Honor Walk, a San Francisco based entertainer, drag queen, community activist, and fundraiser also known as the “First Lady of the Castro.”
Rafael Mandelman is President of the Board of Supervisors. On January 8, 2025, Mandelman was elected unanimously as the President of the Board of Supervisors. He is the first LGBTQ+ person in more than 20 years to serve as the president of the Board.
Nate Bourg is Treasurer of Castro Merchants Association and Co-Founder of The Academy SF. He is passionate about helping the neighborhood thrive as a Bay Area native and San Francisco resident since 2009.
The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and comments from COO, Elliott Stone. President Mandelman also presented Mollie Stone’s Markets Castro with a Certificate of Honor, received by Mike, Elliott and Aaron Stone, for Mollie Stone’s commitment to community involvement, support for local organizations and initiatives, and excellence in entrepreneurship.
“At Mollie Stone’s, we’re dedicated to evolving with the needs of our customers while staying true to our mission of bringing people together through great food,” said Mike Stone.
“This carefully designed remodel represents our commitment to the Castro community and our passion for providing a modern, welcoming space to shop for fresh, local, and unique products.”
We hope that the remodel will enhance the ever-important Castro District. A special thank you to our guest speakers, and community members for showing us your support at our grand remodel celebration. We especially thank our customers for making us your local grocer, our vendors for your valued partnership and support, and our hardworking and talented team for bringing the remodel to life. We look forward to many more years of supporting our community and satisfying our customers.
