Pietisserie began after founder, Jaynelle St. Jean, staged the window of her mother’s home as an iconic country scene with homemade pies set out to cool. Moved to create her own small town in the city, she gave away slices to passersby happy to eat with neighbors. Although she knew how to make only three pies at the time–Blueberry, Pecan and Sweet Potato–the experience was so delightful she decided to start a small business with a big vision: to cultivate genius through pie. Jaynelle believed that pie, an American mainstay, was under-appreciated and that it was her job to enliven it. Over many contemplative nights in her kitchen, Jaynelle created the flavors that have given PieTisserie a place on the tables and in the hearts of Bay Area foodies.

“Just as the perfect crust is made with common ingredients, our best lives are lived through the masterful application of gifts that are readily available to us,” Jaynelle says. “This is what I have learned making pie after pie, and growing a business from a good-feeling place.” At Pietisserie, we want to encourage a cultural shift, one where each person feels at liberty to create a unique mark in our world with their very own special, sometimes unexpected talents.

Jaynelle was raised in San Francisco. She learned to make her first pie from her sweetheart’s mom while attending Lowell High School. She went on to San Diego State University, where she was the Distinguished Graduate of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. Before pie, she worked in sales, law, publishing and education reform. She spent years living between New York City and the North Shore of Oahu, a juxtaposition that has informed her passion to live well in every sense. Jaynelle enjoys trail running, philosophy and a good party. She sits on the board of the Sui Generis Foundation and The Recharge Group.
