Rubicon Bakery has created sweet success from hard times. Founded in 1993, it began as an enterprise to help those newly out of jail by supporting, training, and employing them. After working on Wall Street, Andrew Stoloff purchased the company and the bakery has experienced substantial growth since. Now with over 100 employees, Rubicon is known for their superior confections throughout the Bay Area. Stoloff believes that every employee deserves a second chance to prove themselves through hard work, and says that the bakery business is a “happy business.”

Operating out of Richmond, CA, employees work as a team to whip marshmallow into light-as-air puffs, and enrobe their signature Mom’s Chocolate Cake in rich ganache. Fans love Rubicon Bakery not only for their delectable treats, but also for their admirable socially conscious business model. Although Stoloff has nurtured Rubicon to where it is today, he gives a lot of credit to the employees. He says he isn’t responsible for turning his employees’ lives around, but simply “gives them the chance to do it.”
