WHAT IS A HATCH CHILE ROAST?
Mollie Stone’s is partnering with Melissa’s Produce to bring authentic New Mexico Hatch Chiles to the Bay Area. Join us at one of our upcoming Roasting Events to experience the amazing aroma as we roast these peppers for you in a large propane roaster.
Hatch Chiles are only harvested in August and September, and we will be hosting Roasting Events at each of our Mollie Stone’s locations during the Hatch Chile season. Our chefs will also be offering tastes of delicious Hatch Chile dishes throughout the store. Don’t miss your chance – stockpile them now, freeze them for later use!
WHAT MAKES HATCH CHILES SPECIAL?
In late summer to early fall, there is a special, short season for one of our favorite peppers–Hatch Peppers! We partner with Melissa’s Produce to bring authentic Hatch Peppers to the Bay Area year after year. These unique, meaty green peppers only grow in the fertile soil of Hatch Valley, New Mexico, where the nutrient-rich soil, intense sunlight and cool desert nights of the Hatch Valley give the peppers a one-of-a-kind flavor. Our Hatch Peppers are hand-selected for excellent quality. We ensure that they are firm, green, glossy peppers with a medium to thick flesh.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ENJOY HATCH CHILES?
Hatch Chiles are traditionally bought in bulk, roasted immediately and frozen to use throughout the upcoming year. They are a staple in New Mexican cuisine and will add flavor to any recipe: burgers, tacos, pastas, casseroles, appetizers and even desserts like chocolate chip cookies. The possibilities of this versatile pepper are endless! Pick up one of our Hatch Chile Cookbooks for additional recipe inspiration. Mollie Stone’s chefs will be preparing special recipes – look for our Hatch Chile Cornbread, house-made Hatch Chile Sausages, Hatch Chile Corn Salad and much more throughout the store!
Hatch Chiles will be available by the pound, both fresh and roasted, at all Mollie Stone’s locations now, through September. At our roasting events we will have roasted Hatch Chiles available for walk-up orders, but you have the option to reserve yours in advance to ensure availability.
