The Stone Fruits of Summer

Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and cherries are all members of the Prunus genus. By definition:

“A genus is a group of similar species. Prunus is a genus of trees with perigynous rosaceous flowers. Perigynous describes a flower that has petals, stamens and sepals arranged around a cup-shaped receptacle containing the ovary.”

Who doesn’t love a fluffy, tender, freshly-baked scone…

If you need a go-to scone recipe, look no further. This particular recipe bakes up into the perfect scone texture, and gets a little extra flavor from the oats (think oatmeal cookies).

We used blackberries in the batch pictured above, but raspberries and blueberries are excellent alternatives. You could even try using chopped peaches, nectarines or apples, plus a dash of cinnamon to the dough when you add the salt.

Our Housemade Mild Italian Sausage Selected as “The Strongest Link” by the SF Chronicle

In anticipation of the summer grilling months, the San Francisco Chronicle‘s Food & Wine headquarters conducted a blind taste test to find the Bay Area’s best locally made sausages. The Chronicle purchased sausages from 24 local shops and used mild/sweet Italian as a baseline. Strawberry Chocolate S’mores for a Summer Dessert on the BBQ

The classic combination of chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker doesn’t necessarily need an update, but we have to say this version of s’mores is definitely worthy of your next BBQ.
